A moisturizer's job changes with climate and skin type more than almost any other category. We compare texture, barrier-support ingredients, and how each is positioned for different skin types, alongside real price-per-mL.
Across the moisturizers in our catalog, the median price per mL is $0.328 (based on 74 priced products), per our October 2026 K-Beauty Price Report.

Ingredients here generally fall into three roles: humectants (like hyaluronic acid) that pull water in, emollients (like squalane) that smooth and soften, and occlusives (like petrolatum) that seal moisture in. Most Korean moisturizers blend all three, but the ratio shifts a formula from lightweight gel-cream to rich barrier cream.
Package sizes for moisturizers range widely, from 30mL travel-adjacent jars to 100mL+ everyday tubs, so price-per-mL is especially useful for spotting genuine value versus a smaller jar with a lower sticker price.
How we research moisturizers
- - We note texture, finish, and barrier-support ingredients
- - We flag which skin types or climates each is positioned for
- - We calculate real price-per-mL, not sticker price
- - We label evidence status and surface Olive Young Award data where it exists

- Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin vs. AESTURA Atobarrier365
A named 5-ceramide complex at the highest price on the list against a 6-ingredient barrier formula with back-to-back Olive Young #1 wins, fragrance-free, at less than half the cost.

A multi-purpose brightening-and-barrier cream at a moderate price against a maximalist, fragrance-containing 5-ceramide formula at more than twice as much as Beauty of Joseon's cost.

A mainstream, easy-to-find multi-lipid hyaluronic formula against a birch-sap combination-skin cream at more than a third the price.
- Illiyoon Lotion vs. Concentrate Cream
The same ceramide-and-cholesterol barrier formula in two textures, at a real 5x price-per-mL gap. Not a simple swap, a genuine richness choice.

Frequently asked
What's the difference between a humectant, emollient, and occlusive?
Humectants (like hyaluronic acid) pull water into skin. Emollients (like squalane) smooth and soften. Occlusives (like petrolatum) seal moisture in and prevent water loss. Most moisturizers blend all three; the ratio determines whether it feels light or rich.
How do I know if a moisturizer is too heavy or too light for my skin?
A good sign it's too heavy: it feels greasy hours later or you notice more breakouts. A sign it's too light: your skin feels tight or flaky by midday. Climate matters too, a cream that works in a dry winter can feel too heavy in a humid summer.
How is price-per-mL calculated?
We divide the listed price by the product's size in milliliters. It's a rough way to compare what you're actually paying, since bottle sizes vary a lot within a category and sticker price alone can be misleading.
What's the difference between "Research-based" and "Hands-on tested"?
Research-based means our assessment comes from pricing, ingredients, and published information, not personal use. Hands-on tested means someone on our team actually used the product. We label every product one or the other so it's never ambiguous which kind of evidence you're looking at.
