How we test — and how we're honest about what we haven't tested yet

Most skincare content on the internet is written by rewriting a product page. K-Beauty Intel works differently: every factual claim on this site is tagged with exactly where it came from, so you can decide for yourself how much weight to give it.
The four sources of every claim
Read any review or comparison on this site and you'll see labels like these next to each paragraph:
Brand Claim means the information comes from the manufacturer — their packaging, their website, or their marketing. We don't verify these independently before publishing them; we're telling you what the brand says, not what we've confirmed.
Our Testing means someone on our team bought the product with our own money and used it under the conditions described in that section — a specific climate, skin type, duration, and routine, all stated explicitly.
Third-Party Evidence means a claim backed by something we can link to and you can check yourself — a published ingredient study, a dermatology resource, or lab data from a source other than the brand or us.
Our Conclusion is exactly that: our own synthesis, clearly separated from the inputs above it, so you can see where the brand's claim ends and our opinion begins.
Where we are right now
We're upfront about this: K-Beauty Intel launched in 2026, and our hands-on testing program is being built out over the course of the year rather than all at once. Early content on this site — ingredient breakdowns, buying guides, and price comparisons — is built from publicly available manufacturer data and third-party sources, and is labeled as such. We do not present aggregated research as if it were hands-on testing.
As we complete testing on a product, that page is updated in place — the aggregated content doesn't disappear, it gets a new Our Testing section added alongside it. You'll always be able to tell which is which.
What we test, once we test it
Our hands-on testing protocol, once a product enters it, records: packaging and dispensing, texture and finish, absorption time, layering behavior under makeup or sunscreen, white cast (for sunscreens specifically), fragrance, wear time across a full day, and reapplication behavior. Every field is filled in by a named tester, under stated conditions — never left vague.
Why we do it this way
Two reasons. First, it's honest — you deserve to know whether you're reading a rewritten product label or an actual independent finding. Second, it's the only way we know to build something worth trusting: a site that blends brand marketing into its own voice can't be checked, and shouldn't be trusted at face value.
